Fan Movie Review: Short Story
The plot of the movie goes something like this. Gaurav Chandna (Shah Rukh Khan) is an extremely devoted, hard core, die hard, fully filmy fan of film star Aryan Khanna (Shahrukh Khan). Gaurav puts a great deal of effort into meeting his idol and plans a trip to see him on his birthday. Upon arriving in Mumbai, his plans of meeting Aryan take an unexpected turn when he gets caught in the midst of a messy situation.
After a series of events, the two finally meet. But things, don’t go as planned and they end up in a heated argument. Gaurav walks away with a bad taste in his mouth, having lost the love and admiration he once had from Aryan, for having crushed his dreams, thus ruining his perception of his long-time hero (the latter)
As the movie has two characters, the director never really shows any one of them in a negative light (or) as a villain. The good thing director did was develop the characterizations of the characters rather than focusing on good and bad. This will make the audience unbiased and get ready for the ultimate climax episode rooting for both the characters.
What do I conclude after watching Fan Movie?
Following Happy New Year and Dilwale, many Shahrukh Khan loyalists (including yours truly) had seemingly stopped expecting much out from Shah Rukh Khan, but there still lingered hope that the King of Bollywood would soon pull a Swades or Chak De India out his hat again. When the first trailer of Fan got released, the excitement was at its peak.
This time, not just because it was SRK on screen, but the movie promised a thriller, something unusual, an uncommon plot. We were all hooked. Then came the movie anthem in ‘Jabra Fan’, a song that took the entire nation by storm with SRK’s fun, casual dance moves and the upbeat music. Everyone seemed to be eagerly waiting for the movie release and today it has hit the screens.
Though initially I had my doubts about this movie, let me be the first to say, ‘Fan’ is unlike any movie experience you will ever have. Now I know that’s loaded statement, but I have my reasons. Let’s discuss it.
We all know that feeling of being a die-hard fan. I, for one, sure do (well something of sorts). Going to a concert. Screaming at the top of your lungs. Trying to get them to just notice your existence. Just a glance. Once, maybe twice if you are lucky. But then you ask yourself ‘why would they notice me? Well, because you’re the biggest fan. That’s your self proclaimed fact of life and you’ve force yourself to believe it’s true. No one else looks up to this person quite like you do. And then it drawns on you… this person may very well be the most important person in your life, but who are you to them?
Gaurav is all of us. Sure, maybe not to the extent of madness, but I believe that the ability to love to the point of obsession, is in all of us. Whether it’s the love of an actor, singer, sportsman etc.. there’s someone who inspires us all, in some way, and makes us passionate about something in a way that no one else can.
The story of this movie ‘Fan’ will win you over purely because it is relatable on the most basic human level. The scene where Gaurav first sees Aryan waving his hands to his fans will actually break you down. It will happen so fast you won’t even know what hit you because that scene is so damn real. Wanting to be noticed but not being seen. That longing. That is you. That is me. That’s all of us. And it’s brilliant!! So well done director Maneesh Sharma! You have succeeded at making a great movie with an actor I least expected to blow me away.
One thing is for sure, I can bet anything, this role has taken everything out of SRK in a way that has grounded him for life. The ending scene will prove that to you. This movie is going to be added in my favorite list of SRK’s movies. This movie was truly one of the biggest mysteries.
My favorite Song “Jabra: Fan Anthem Song”:
Jabra become one of my favorite song which I listened around 2-3 times a day. I really loved that song and I hope you too. Actually, i am addicted to this song. This song was released on 16 February 2016. There are 8 different version of this song “Jabra Fan”. The song was in 8 different prominent Indian languages sung by regional singers. The song received a very good response on the YouTube and crosses 23 million.
Should I Watch?
Yes, ofcourse it’s a must watch for Shah Rukh Khan Fans and even if you are not a fan of Shah Rukh Khan, It’s a decent one time watch especially for the character called Gaurav played by Shah Rukh Khan. Say, what you want about SRK. He owned this movie. For those of you, like myself, who started to give up on him, you will be pleasantly surprised at how he’s reinvented himself at this point in his career. You may have laughed at his “Om Shanti Om”, laughed even harder at “Chennai Express”, and nearly peed your pants during “Dilwale” but this is where he reminds you that He’s King Khan… Badshah of Bollywood and rightfully so!
The only thing that worked wonderfully for me in this movie is Shah Rukh Khan’s performance. He brings grace to the screen by portraying entirely different characters with a much needed perfection. MovieNasha gave 4.3 rating out of 5. The movie can easily be called an edge-of-the-seat thriller as the audiences are kept wondering what would happen next. Fan is pretty much for the fans of Shah Rukh Khan.
The FAN theme song (mentioned above) by Vishal-Shekhar lingers on your mind for a long time after you’ve watched the film, there’s some amazing cinematography by Manu Anand and the enthralling background score by Andrea Guerra forms one of the many factors that keep the movie entertaining from the very start till the end. The heavy claps at the end of the movie meant something, and were totally justified.
